The Dunwoody Highlands subdivision (formerly DeKalb Highlands) was developed between 1966 and 1968 and currently has 154 homes. Originally a part of unincorporated DeKalb County, the subdivision fell within the boundaries of the City of Dunwoody when founded in December 2008. Subsequently, The Highlands Club spearheaded an effort to seek approval from homeowners and later from City and County officials to change the subdivision name from DeKalb Highlands to Dunwoody Highlands. Final approval was obtained in July 2013.
In 1969, residents organized a neighborhood social club named The Highlands Club. This volunteer organization coordinates neighborhood events and serves as a liaison for community interests. Club membership is open to all subdivision homeowners and residents.
